Evolution And Needs Of EFI Systems

Technology is showing its growth in every now and then. Mechanical vehicles are already the children of technology, further; it is also gaining some development in the systems. EFI is one among them, where people like to use them in their vehicles. Through this system, fuel is injected under pressure into the engine for better fuel atomization. The system is multi-port and self-tuning which does not require any advanced computer skills to tune or adjust. Here is some information regarding the evolution of EFI fuel injection systems and their benefits.

Evaluation Of The EFI Fuel Injection System

In 1980s a system called Electronic Fuel Injection (EFI) system was introduced it was completely based on programs and treated as computer-controlled carburetors. Later people understood it in the 1990s and the system came into effect. Today the technology is found in most of the vehicles.

This is derived from ancient technology that was in practice even during the time of the First World War. There are some differences between the carburetor and the fuel injection, but both of them aimed to add  fuel into the engine. In the 1960s there were some changes made in the mechanical system in order to enhance the calibration of air and fuel.

Carburetors were easy to manufacture, adaptable and had several advantages but later on they became more maintenance-intensive causing smog and air pollution. EFI system evidenced some than them. This made the industry to look for EFI fuel injection systems to meet all the demands

Benefits Of EFI Fuel Injection Systems

Here are several benefits that the system has and they serve as the key reason to adopt the technology

They Consume Only Less Fuel

When compared to the carbureted engines the EFI fuel injection consumes only less amount of fuel.  It is found there are 15 to 30 percent reductions in the fuel consumption. Based on requirements, EFI fuel injection systems injects right amount of fuel into the engine.

Can Work With Heavy Fuel

EFI systems are efficient to work with certain heavy fuels like Jet-A, JP-5, and JP-8; whereas, carburetors will not work, and it is extremely difficult to handle them under such heavy fuel. So, EFI systems are effective in undertaking heavy fuel operations.

Produces High Power

The power and torque produced by the EFI system are much higher that carburetor. EFI system also has the capacity to optimize the air/fuel ratios and also the time of ignition. The research says that the EFI system will be able to produce power 5 to 10 percent compared to the carburetor.

Enhances Reliability

EFI fuel injection systems have a control system that can maintain the required amount of air and fuel quantity when the vehicle is moving, and this leads to minimum susceptible to icing. It also eliminates certain random engine stoppages; oiled spark plugs and also minimizes several other problems that arise due to an imbalance in the air fuels ratio.

Good Starting

Because of the optimum air and fuel ratio, the EFI system creates an improved cold and hot starting performance. When it is the system with the When the vehicle has two-stroke engine, it is harder to start in standard form, but the EFI fuel injection systems follow the concept of the four-stroke engine thus helps in faster starting. It also enables the system to start in various conditions like too hot to too cold, various altitudes and also in UAV operations as well.

Altitude Compensation

The system comprises of the devices that completely monitor the level of pressure and ECU which is used to calculate the required air-fuel according to the difference in altitude. This will finally help in the vehicle to have good performance even if there is no sufficient oxygen level.

However, the system is costlier compared to the carbonators, but it has many advantages to be considered. Apply the technology in the right place and get the maximum benefits out of them.
