Dealing With Hunger Pangs That Come With Intermittent Fasting

There are a lot of weight-loss diets in existence, each one of them promising to yield dramatic results. Back in 2019, according to Google, the leading diet trend was intermittent fasting.

One of the things that make the diet interesting is this: it allows those trying to shed off excess pounds to eat practically anything that they want. What’s more? It does not limit the amount of food that they can eat in one sitting.

However, eating is only allowed within the so-called eating window, which is several hours away from the other. It is why hunger pangs are a problem that is commonly faced by those who are giving the revolutionary weight-loss diet approach a try.

Encountering hunger pangs can give a person who is intermittent fasting the urge to eat outside the eating window. Without enough willpower and commitment to the diet, he or she may lose control and devour anything edible within sight. Naturally, this will keep weight loss from taking place.

Fortunately, there are many ways to put hunger pangs under control while on a fast. Experimenting on different ones allows the individual to find out which ones can impress, allowing him or her to fend off irresistible cravings effectively.

Drink Black Coffee

Most people cannot differentiate between thirst and hunger. If drinking a tall glass of water can get rid of a hunger pang after a couple of minutes, it is just thirst. On the other hand, it is indeed hunger if it stays around.

If having water is not doing the trick, drinking a cup of black coffee is a great idea. Everyone knows that caffeine is a stimulant. Sadly, not too many are aware that it is also a natural appetite suppressant. However, it is not a good idea to combat hunger pangs late at night with black coffee as it will cancel out the next tip.

Get a Good Night’s Sleep

Whether on a weight-loss diet or not, a person may feel hungry all day long if he or she failed to get seven to nine hours of high-quality sleep the night before. Health experts say that it is due to hormonal imbalance stemming from lack of sleep. The problem with hunger pangs because of sleep deprivation is that they make sweets so irresistible.

There are many ways to encourage a good night’s sleep. One of them is by having a cup of chamomile or jasmine tea, which has almost zero calories. Refrain from drinking coffee or working out a few hours before bedtime to keep insomnia from striking.

Chew on Gum

A couple of reasons exist why chewing on mint-flavoured sugarless gum is great for anyone who is trying to fast. First, the mint flavour of gum has appetite-suppressing effects. It is why many people swear by the effectiveness of brushing their teeth with minty toothpaste for driving away cravings.

Second, chewing on sugarless gum is effective for dealing with heartburn and acid reflux as a result of not eating anything for long periods. With the help of gum, hunger pangs that can wreak havoc on one’s weight-loss goal can become easier to deal with.

A word of caution: Before trying to get rid of excess pounds through a weight-loss diet, it is important to consult a doctor first.
